Taxonomy for corporate intranet

The project

Information Solutions was engaged by the Australian Industry InnovationXchange to assist in the development of the information architecture for our new public web site. The InnovationXchange is a new concept, unique to Australia, bringing together all the resources vital to innovation and the advancement of Australia's innovation capabilities. 

Specifically, Information Solutions conducted an extensive amount of research in order to develop a "taxonomy" of innovation. This led to a metadata structure and the information architecture for the management and presentation of innovation resources on our web site.

The value of the work to the overall project

The value of the contribution by Information Solutions to our project, lies in the process they adopted to conduct the research and develop the metadata schema.

The process used was to continually ask the question of how our target market would be thinking about the information in their context, and to avoid the tendency to present information in the same complex, non industry focused way that it is now.

The research conducted by Information Solutions was extensive and very relevant, and gave us confidence that we had a full understanding of the innovation landscape.

Without the benefit of the expertise of Information Solutions in the development of the metadata schema, we would not have developed a simple, effective and user oriented information architecture that is so vital to the success of our service.
